The country of 42 million people reported its first case on Sunday and has since imposed travel restrictions and banned public gatherings. As of today April 1, 2020, Uganda has 45 confirmed cases of coronavirus, including an eight-month-old baby.
“The rapid evolution of COVID-19 in Africa is deeply worrisome and a clear signal for action,” Matshidiso Moeti, WHO regional director for Africa, said.
The PKM – School is closed as of March 20th, 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This was done following the Ugandan ministry of health and government directives for all public places including schools to shut down for at least 32 days.
All our students have been sent home including the ones that board at the school. We are very grateful to the community leaders under the guidance of the Mayor of Aduku Mr. Rolex Oyari and the local church – St. Peters Church of Uganda for making sure that each of our children had a home to go to. We are grateful for the staff members who not only act as workers but also as caregivers to the children.
Although children are not dying from the disease per se, they are shouldering a lot of the social burden due to school closures. For many of our children living in abject poverty, not going to school, not having access to a safe space during conflict, not having the only available meal of the day that they receive from school, having no running clean water and soap to wash hands – all of these are huge challenges.
While the PKM schools are temporarily closed, that does not mean all programmatic activities and expenses have stopped. Your monthly support is still vital in this season. Our local community partners and leaders are visiting homes to check on the welfare of children and their host families. They may be delivering medical supplies, hygiene kits, extra food, water and other resources to help during this time of crisis.

God bless you for your care and concern for his children living in extreme poverty. And thank you for keeping them in your prayers.
He has delivered us from such a deadly peril, and he will deliver us again. On him we have set our hope that he will continue to deliver us, as you help us by your prayers …—2 Corinthians 1:10-11 (NIV)
